How long is it since you were feeling really well?

As a teenager, I frequently had an upset stomach, my concentration and memory were not the best, my energy levels were low and I often found it difficult to get to sleep.  In essence, I felt a lot older than I was. Nothing I did or was given had any lasting effect.

Then in 1999 while doing practical work for a technology degree, a severe back strain saw me consulting a chiropractor for the first time. That changed the course of my life.  Not only did my back improve rapidly but he explained to me the chiropractic philosophy of health. With continuing care I noticed that my memory and concentration improved, so I was able to consistently achieve top grades with far less stress and study.  My energy and productivity improved, I slept solidly and rarely got sick.

I Became Seriously Interested in Chiropractic

I became seriously interested in chiropractic and spoke to a number of chiropractors who seemed very happy in their careers. (I later discovered that most chiropractors are either people who have been dramatically helped by chiropractic or are from ‘chiropractic families’ where their parents were chiropractors).

The philosophy of chiropractic really made sense to me – our bodies want to be healthy, and will maintain and improve our health as long as the nervous system (control system of the body) is working as it should.  It appealed to me that chiropractors could naturally and safely assist the body to work better, rather than suppressing the body’s warning signals with drugs.   I took my positive experiences as a sign, and after finishing my studies at Massey University, I decided to train as a chiropractor in Auckland.

After Graduating

After graduating from the New Zealand College of Chiropractic, I became an Associate at First Chiropractic in Napier, the practice where I had first encountered chiropractic care. I worked at this large and busy practice for two years, receiving valuable mentoring and gaining great experience.  During that time, the youngest person I adjusted was 3 days old, while the oldest patient was 94.  I also had many clients referred to me by their midwives for pre and post natal care. I find it wonderful seeing people’s physical performance and quality of life improve, their pain reduce and their ability to stay active enhanced.

It may surprise you that I have frequently adjusted show dogs, as the owners believe that chiropractic care has improved their alertness and movement and contributes to their top placing in shows

Making a Difference in Hamilton

I moved to Hamilton last year because there is a significant shortage of chiropractors in this city and I wanted to make a difference within the community.  I live in Rototuna and know that at Essential Family Chiropractic our safe, gentle, effective approach to chiropractic care will give you relief, hope and the means of making positive changes in your life.  I frequently hear from my clients that chiropractic gives them the opportunity to continue getting older, but in the process, to feel younger.  Ask yourself, what have you really got to lose?

Thank you for visiting the Essential Family Chiropractic website. We look forward to meeting you in person and learning how we may be of service to you and your family. Give our office a call, or email me using the link below, to arrange a time to explore how we can help you.

Hamilton Chiropractor, Dr Kylie Phillips

I was fortunate enough to be first introduced to chiropractic care as a child growing up on a dairy farm in Tirau.

Hamilton Chiropractor, Dr. Kylie PhillipsAs I got older I started to discover a passion for sports, playing tennis, volleyball and netball to representative level.  However I wasn’t able to run or train without debilitating headaches after a whiplash injury.  My grandparents recommended that I visit their chiropractor in Rotorua (to this day 3 generations of my family still receive regular Chiropractic care at Funnell Family Chiropractic) and in no time I was headache free, and not only that, I never seemed to suffer the “usual” sporting injuries or illnesses that plagued so many of my team mates.

I now know that chiropractic is so much more than “fixing” headaches it is about restoring balance to your body so that you can get the best out of it and bounce back from injury or illness a lot quicker.

Education & Training

Naturally my love of sports and health led me to spend 5 years studying at the New Zealand College of Chiropractic.  Since graduating I have been privileged to work with some truly amazing chiropractors in Palmerston North and the Hawkes Bay as well as locuming in the Manawatu/southern Hawke’s Bay region.

I’m really excited to be returning back home to the Waikato and look forward to meeting you and your family to help you discover the benefits of Chiropractic care!

Dr. David Asks some important questions of interest to Hamilton residents - Chiropractor Hamilton Dr. David Asks...

Why is a "slipped disc" unlikely?
Separating each spinal vertebra is a disc. Its fibrous outer ring holds in a jelly-like material. Because of the way a disc attaches to the spinal bones above and below it, it can't actually "slip." However, a disc can bulge, tear, herniate, thin and collapse. But it can't slip.
Are aches and pains good or bad?
While aches or pains may be unpleasant, they're merely warning signs. As a Hamilton chiropractor, I see this all the time. The pain is not the problem! It just means a limitation has been reached and something needs to change. That's when we get to work correcting the underlying cause.
